Netanyahu addresses the Iranian people: You and your children deserve better

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the Iranian people in a statement made in English on Monday, saying, "Israel stands with you."

Praising his country's operations against Hezbollah and Hamas militants, Netanyahu said, "Every day, you see a regime that enslaves you, giving fiery speeches about Lebanon and Gaza. Yet, this regime is dragging our region deeper into darkness and war with each passing day."

Netanyahu included the following statements in his speech:

I speak a lot about Iran's leaders. However, at this important moment, I want to speak to you, the people of Iran. I want to do this directly, without filters, without intermediaries.

The Iranian regime gives speeches every day about defending Lebanon, defending Gaza. Every day, their puppets are being eliminated. Ask Mohammed Deif, ask Nasrallah. There is nowhere in the Middle East that Israel cannot go to protect our people and our country.

With every passing moment, the regime is bringing you, the noble Persian people, closer to the abyss. The vast majority of Iranians know that their regime does not care about them.

If it did, it would not waste billions of dollars on unnecessary wars in the Middle East.

Imagine if all the vast money the regime wastes on nuclear weapons and wars were spent on your children's education, on improving your healthcare, on your country's infrastructure, on water, sewage, and all the other things you need. Imagine it. But there is one simple thing you know: the dictators in Iran do not care about your future.

When Iran is finally free—and that moment will come much sooner than people think—everything will be different. Our two ancient peoples, the Jewish people and the Persian people, will finally be at peace. Our two countries, Israel and Iran, will be at peace. When that day comes, the terror network the regime has built on five continents will be dismantled. Iran will flourish as never before.

There are tens of millions of good and decent people in Iran. Do not let a small group crush your hopes and dreams. You deserve better, your children deserve better, and the whole world deserves better.

I know you do not support the rapists and murderers of Hamas and Hezbollah, but your leaders do. You deserve more. The people of Iran should know: Israel stands with you. Let us build a future of prosperity and peace together.

WHAT HAPPENED?

It was confirmed by the Israeli military and Hezbollah that Hassan Nasrallah, who had led Hezbollah—which controls much of Lebanon—for 30 years, was killed in Israeli airstrikes on Friday night. Following the Israeli strikes, it was announced that Nasrallah's body had been recovered and that the cause of death was trauma from the intensity of the explosion.

The Wall Street Journal (WSJ) reported that Nasrallah and other top Hezbollah leaders were under siege when they gathered in a bunker 20 meters underground in a working-class neighborhood in southern Beirut on Friday.

According to information provided by a senior Israeli official, the Israeli air force struck the bunker with approximately 80 tons of bombs. It was stated that a series of simultaneous explosions were carried out to penetrate the underground bunker.

According to the Reuters news agency, one of the Israeli military spokesmen, Nadav Shoshani, said they had "real-time" intelligence that Nasrallah and other Hezbollah leaders were at the meeting. It was noted that the underground command center was hidden beneath an apartment building.

Brigadier General Amichai Levin, commander of Israel's Hatzerim Airbase, said, "The operation was complex and had been planned for a long time."

According to two Israeli sources cited by the agency, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave the approval for the assassination on Wednesday. The airstrikes targeting the command center took place hours after Netanyahu vowed to "defeat Hezbollah" in his speech at the UN General Assembly.
