Netanyahu defends UNIFIL attack

As Israel's attacks on Lebanon continue, Israel persists in targeting the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

In a video message, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that Israel did not intentionally attack UNIFIL in Lebanon, stating, "The claim that Israel intentionally attacked UNIFIL personnel is completely false.

The exact opposite is true. Israel has repeatedly asked UNIFIL to stay out of harm's way. It has repeatedly asked them to temporarily leave the combat zone, which is located right next to Israel's border with Lebanon."

Stating that they asked UNIFIL to leave the area on the day Israel launched its ground operation into Lebanon, Netanyahu reiterated the claim that Hezbollah uses UNIFIL positions as shields for its attacks against the Israeli army.

"Israel has the right to defend itself against Hezbollah and will continue to do so," Netanyahu said, arguing that Israel is doing everything in its power to prevent harm to UNIFIL soldiers. Netanyahu added, "The best way to ensure the safety of UNIFIL personnel is for UNIFIL to heed Israel's request and temporarily withdraw from the area."
