Netanyahu: 'Disagreements with the US have not been resolved behind closed doors for weeks'
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the "disagreements" with the US regarding arms shipments "have not been resolved behind closed doors for weeks."
According to a report in the Haaretz newspaper, Netanyahu reacted to statements made by Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, who is currently holding talks in Washington, regarding disagreements with the US.
Netanyahu argued that "when disagreements (with the US) have not been resolved behind closed doors for weeks, the Prime Minister of Israel must speak out to get what the soldiers need."
A statement from the Israeli Ministry of Defense included remarks made by Gallant at the beginning of his meeting with US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
It was stated that Gallant claimed "they see the American people as their family, and that while disagreements may arise, they discuss them within the house, as in any family." According to the statement, Gallant also claimed that they "resolve disagreements with the US behind closed doors."
On June 18, Netanyahu shared a video in which he accused the US of refusing to send arms to his country, and at a cabinet meeting the following day, he argued that there had been a "dramatic drop" in US arms aid.
Netanyahu also claimed that they had repeatedly called for the shipments to be accelerated during their meetings with US officials, but that "the basic situation has not changed."
The US Department of State, however, rejected Netanyahu's statement that there had been a "dramatic reduction in US arms aid," stating that "they did not understand what he meant by that."
