Netanyahu discusses hostage exchange negotiations with Trump's Middle East envoy
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu held a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump's Special Envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, regarding the ceasefire and hostage exchange negotiations being conducted in Doha, Qatar.
According to a statement from the Israeli Prime Minister's Office, Netanyahu held extensive discussions with Witkoff and the Israeli negotiating team that traveled to Doha regarding the hostages held in Gaza.
Following a face-to-face meeting yesterday with U.S. Middle East Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had decided to send a delegation to Doha, the capital of Qatar, to participate in indirect talks with Hamas for a ceasefire in Gaza and a mutual hostage exchange.
Reports in the Israeli press suggest that according to a new draft presented by U.S. Envoy Witkoff, in exchange for Hamas releasing 10 hostages in Gaza, the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza would begin, and a temporary ceasefire of 70 to 90 days could be implemented.
Israel, however, rejects ending its attacks in Gaza and a permanent ceasefire.
Despite this, as reported in the press, Hamas is demanding a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and the facilitation of humanitarian aid, while accepting that the administration of Gaza be left to an independent technocratic structure.
