Netanyahu: Israeli army will not withdraw from southern Lebanon
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the Israeli army will not withdraw from regions in southern Lebanon.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has announced that the Israeli army will continue its occupation of Lebanese territory.
Speaking at an event in the occupied West Bank, Netanyahu said that Israeli soldiers would not withdraw from the so-called "security zone" established in Lebanon for as long as necessary.
Citing the "security of Israel's northern borders" as a justification, Netanyahu stated that the army would maintain its positions in Lebanon.
The Israeli press has claimed that the Tel Aviv administration is engaged in intense negotiations with the US to continue its occupation in Lebanon.
Trump had said, "We are having a disagreement with Netanyahu regarding Lebanon"
Netanyahu's statement came following remarks made by US President Donald Trump during the G7 Leaders' Summit held in France. Trump had criticized Israel, pointing out that it had resorted to the use of disproportionate force in its attacks against Hezbollah. In his statement regarding Netanyahu, the US President said, "He is a good guy. Netanyahu gets excited sometimes, but he is a good partner. We are having a small disagreement on Lebanon. I tell him, 'There is no need to level the entire building every time one person from Hezbollah enters a building.' But our partnership is extraordinary."
A memorandum of understanding had been signed between the US and Iran
A 14-point memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran was signed yesterday evening by Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Within the scope of the said memorandum, the parties declared that the conflicts on all fronts, including Lebanon, had been ended. In this framework, the US and Iran also committed to guaranteeing the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Lebanon.
The Israeli army had shared a map regarding the expansion of the occupation
The Israeli army, meanwhile, had shared a map in the past few hours regarding the expansion of the occupation in the region. In a statement made by the army, it was stated that Israeli soldiers were deployed in a "security zone" approximately 10 kilometers inside Lebanese territory due to "operational requirements."
