Netanyahu orders attack on Gaza

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered a new military operation against the Gaza Strip following consultations with security officials.

While Netanyahu claimed that Hamas violated the ceasefire process mediated by the US, a statement from the Prime Minister's Office said, "Following security consultations, Prime Minister Netanyahu instructed the army to immediately carry out powerful attacks on the Gaza Strip."

ISRAEL IGNORES CEASEFIRE

The statement from the Israeli Prime Minister's Office noted that Netanyahu made the decision as a result of security consultations.

The statement included the phrase, "As a result of security consultations, Prime Minister Netanyahu instructed the military echelon to immediately carry out intense attacks on the Gaza Strip."

Local media reported that at the time the statement was released, the Israeli army was conducting an airstrike on the city of Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.

Earlier in the day, it had been alleged that fire was opened on Israeli soldiers in Rafah.

Netanyahu had held a security consultation meeting and a security cabinet meeting, alleging that Hamas had "violated the ceasefire agreement."

It was noted that the Israeli Prime Minister would make a decision based on the outcome of the meeting.

It had been alleged that Israel could expand the yellow line it holds under occupation in the Gaza Strip and that the US had given the green light for this.
