Netanyahu reacts to arrest warrant request
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has described the request by International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Karim Ahmad Khan for an arrest warrant against him as "antisemitism."
International Criminal Court (ICC) Prosecutor Karim Ahmad Khan’s request for an arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has drawn a reaction from Netanyahu, who released a video message.
Netanyahu stated that Khan’s request was "absurd and false," adding that it was "directed against the entire State of Israel." Claiming that Khan’s request also targets Israeli soldiers, Netanyahu asked by what audacity Khan compares Hamas to Israeli soldiers, and described the Israeli army as the most moral army in the world.
Stating that Khan’s request is an example of the "new antisemitism" that has moved from university campuses to The Hague, Netanyahu promised the Israeli people that the ICC’s attempt to tie Israel’s hands would fail, that no international body could prevent Israel from striking those who wish to destroy it, and that Israel would achieve total victory against Hamas.
WHAT HAPPENED?
Khan had requested arrest warrants for Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, as well as Hamas’s Gaza leader Yahya Sinwar, the commander of Hamas’s military wing—also known as the Al-Qassam Brigades—Mohammed Diab Ibrahim al-Masri (also known as Deif), and Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh. The final decision regarding the arrest warrants for senior Israeli and Hamas leaders will be made by the judges of the International Criminal Court.
