Netanyahu's son changes his name
It has been reported that Yair Netanyahu, the son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has been using the name Yonatan Hon in documents in the US.
It has emerged that Yair Netanyahu, the son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, has changed his name. According to information in the Israeli press, Yair Netanyahu, who lives in the US, uses the name “Yonatan Hon” in some official documents.
According to a report by Haaretz, the name change was detected in Yair Netanyahu’s tax deduction documents. It was also stated that a fictional address listed as “Balfour 0” was used in the documents.
It was previously known that Yair Netanyahu had introduced himself as “Yair Hon” on social media. It was reported that the surname “Hon” was the former surname of his mother Sara Netanyahu’s father, Shmuel, and that the family later adopted the surname Ben Artzi.

The report noted that the name change coincides with a period when the Netanyahu surname is increasingly associated with political and legal controversies in the US and internationally. It is stated that Benjamin Netanyahu is the target of intense criticism in US politics, particularly due to the Gaza war.

On November 21, 2024, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant over allegations of war crimes and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip.
It was stated that Yair Netanyahu is also under scrutiny due to past controversies regarding his business connections in the US and his family’s relationships with wealthy individuals. The report noted that these connections have made the discussions surrounding the name change more visible.
REASON FOR MOVING TO THE US
In a statement made in 2025, Yair Netanyahu claimed that he left Israel and moved to the US due to “death threats” directed at him by opposition protesters. Netanyahu said that a protest was held in front of his house on the night his father dismissed former Defense Minister Gallant.
Speaking to the TOV news platform, Yair Netanyahu alleged that some protesters tried to climb the house’s fences with torches in their hands and that the police did not intervene. Netanyahu stated, “It was clear that there were high-level officials who allowed all of this to happen.”
Yair Netanyahu also argued that the funding for some protests in Israel, including those against judicial reform, was largely provided by European countries such as Germany, Sweden, the UK, and France.
