Netanyahu makes statement on Hezbollah

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that Hashem Safieddine, the head of Hezbollah's Executive Council who was considered the likely successor to Hassan Nasrallah, was killed in an attack they carried out.

In a video message released in English, Netanyahu addressed the people of Lebanon and made claims regarding the current situation.

Blaming Iran for the situation Lebanon is in, Netanyahu argued that Tehran, not Israel, is responsible for what is happening.

Netanyahu claimed that they had killed not only Hezbollah Secretary-General Nasrallah but also Safieddine, who was considered his likely successor.

Arguing that they had "dealt a blow to and weakened" Hezbollah, Netanyahu called on the Lebanese people to take a stand against the group.

HE THREATENED THE LEBANESE WITH THE FATE OF THOSE IN GAZA

Threatening the people of Lebanon with the fate of the Palestinians in Gaza, who are under Israeli attacks, Netanyahu said, "You have an opportunity to save Lebanon before it falls into the abyss of a long war that will lead to destruction and suffering like we see in Gaza. It doesn't have to be that way."

Hassan Nasrallah was killed in Israeli airstrikes on the Dahiyeh neighborhood in southern Beirut on September 27.

While Hezbollah has not yet determined who will replace Nasrallah, Safieddine's name has been prominent for the position of Secretary-General.

The Israeli press had reported that Safieddine was targeted in an airstrike carried out by the Israeli army on the night of October 3 in southern Beirut.
