Netanyahu’s message on normalization with Saudi Arabia: “It would be a historic leap forward”
Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu argued that Saudi Arabia joining the Abraham Accords would be historic for Middle East peace.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed the US message regarding the inclusion of Saudi Arabia in the normalization process with Israel. In a statement issued on behalf of Netanyahu by the Israeli Prime Minister's Office, it was stated that the Riyadh administration joining the Abraham Accords would be a critical step for the region.
''IT WILL BE A HISTORIC LEAP FORWARD FOR PEACE''
The statement included the words, “As President Donald Trump also stated, Saudi Arabia joining the Abraham Accords will be a historic leap forward for peace in the Middle East.”
Netanyahu’s statement came following discussions regarding the civil nuclear cooperation agreement signed between the US and Saudi Arabia. US President Donald Trump had announced that the approval process for the civil nuclear agreement between Washington and Riyadh would be conditional on Saudi Arabia joining the Abraham Accords.
Trump stated that there would be “no material enrichment” in the agreement made between the US Department of Energy and Saudi Arabia, and expressed that approval was dependent on Riyadh’s participation in the normalization process with Israel.
Previously in Israel, claims that the US-Saudi Arabia civil nuclear agreement might not be tied to the condition of normalization with Tel Aviv had caused concern. Netanyahu’s statement also asserted that the war that the US and Israel launched against Iran on February 28, which was stated to have lasted 40 days, “revealed the possibility of expanding the circle of peace.”
