New airstrike from Pakistan to Afghanistan

Tensions in the region have flared up again following the emergence of details regarding the airstrikes Pakistan conducted throughout the night in the Kandahar province.

According to information obtained from security circles, Pakistani military fighter jets targeted shelters and military infrastructure belonging to the TTP (Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan). It was reported that critical facilities were destroyed during the raids, and a tunnel used to store technical equipment was also struck. Military sources emphasized that the operations will continue until the identified targets are completely eliminated.

HIGH CASUALTY TOLL IN OPERATIONS

Pakistan's Minister of Information Attaullah Tarar stated in a social media post that 684 armed elements belonging to Afghan security forces were killed and more than 912 people were injured. According to Tarar's statement, nearly 300 checkpoints, 229 tanks and armored vehicles, and numerous artillery weapons were also destroyed on the Afghan side. Additionally, it was noted that a total of 73 targets were struck from the air.

CIVILIANS ALSO CAUGHT IN THE CROSSFIRE

The military activity in the region is also bringing civilian casualties with it. The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) announced that 75 civilians have lost their lives and 193 people have been injured in the clashes that have occurred since February 26.

Afghanistan, in turn, announced that it has launched new operations in response to Pakistan's attacks. In a statement from the Kabul administration, it was reported that a Pakistani military outpost was targeted, and that 14 Pakistani soldiers were killed and 11 soldiers were injured in this attack.

With the cross-border clashes that have gained momentum in recent weeks, historical disputes between the two countries have returned to the agenda. While Pakistan holds the TTP and its presence in Afghanistan responsible for the recent incidents, the Kabul administration categorically rejects these claims.

Following similar crises that occurred in October of last year, ceasefire talks were initiated between the parties in Istanbul in November 2025, but the negotiations held were inconclusive. The cycle of attacks and retaliation between the parties continues to increase instability in the region.
