New claims regarding 'mysterious' drones in the US

Discussions continue regarding the mysterious drones that have been observed at night for some time in the country's northeastern states, particularly in New Jersey and New York.

Belleville, New Jersey Mayor Michael Melham said in an interview with local TV channel Fox 5 that the unmanned aerial vehicles flying at night are part of a government operation to search for radioactive material that was reported missing at the beginning of the month.

Melham stated, "There is currently an alert in New Jersey that radioactive material has gone missing. There was a shipment on December 2nd; it reached its destination, but the container was damaged and empty. So, potentially, we are looking for it."

Noting that an "unprecedented briefing" was held last week with mayors and state assembly members in New Jersey regarding this issue, Melham said of the drones in question, "We know for a fact that these are not aliens or a foreign adversary, because they could have figured out how to turn off the flashing lights. These unmanned aerial vehicles are very large."

Melham said that officials have provided "very little information" about the unmanned aerial vehicles seen across the state, adding, "There has been no information provided since then, and I think this lack of transparency does nothing but fuel online conspiracy theories."

On the other hand, the New Jersey Department of Energy, the Department of Environmental Protection, and relevant authorities denied the claim put forward by Melham in statements made to the media.

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission had issued an alert earlier this month stating that medical equipment containing nuclear material used in cancer screenings had gone "missing during transport" on December 2nd after being sent from the Nazha Cancer Center in Newfield for disposal.

CLAIMS OF SEARCHING FOR A NUCLEAR WARHEAD

Meanwhile, John Ferguson, founder of the Kansas-based company Saxon Unmanned, which supplies high-tech unmanned aerial vehicles to the US military, raised the possibility that the drones are searching for a nuclear warhead that was secretly brought into the US.

In a post on his TikTok account that has been viewed millions of times, Ferguson recalled that there were about 80 nuclear warheads that went missing in Ukraine after the Cold War era, stating, "The only reason they are flying so low at night is that they are trying to sniff something out on the ground."

Stating that drones can be equipped with "special sensors that can detect radioactive material," Ferguson suggested that the US government is using a fleet of drones at night to "sniff out" a radiation source on the ground.

MYSTERIOUS DRONE DISCUSSIONS IN THE US

The "mysterious" drone sightings, first observed on November 18th over Morris and Somerset counties in New Jersey, began to appear in and around New York as well, and have been a source of concern for some time after being shared on social media.

While eyewitnesses stated that the unmanned aerial vehicles were the size of a bicycle or a small car, authorities imposed flight restrictions in the region due to a drone being detected over US President-elect Donald Trump's golf course in New Jersey, citing the possibility of a potential attack.

While the White House stated that there is no evidence that the "mysterious" drones "pose a security threat," Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary Sabrina Singh also addressed claims that the drones were launched from an Iranian ship near the US East Coast, stating, "There is no truth to that."

The US Department of Homeland Security, the Department of Defense, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) noted in a joint written statement released yesterday that technical reviews of the complaints received showed that "nothing abnormal was detected in the drone incidents" and that they do not pose a national security or public safety risk.

Donald Trump, at a press conference he held at Mar-a-Lago, said, "Our military knows where these drones are taking off and landing, the President knows, but for some reason they are not commenting, they are leaving the public in doubt, they must make a statement."
