New development in the draft resolution requested at the UNGA

The United Nations General Assembly has adopted the draft resolution requesting that July 11 be declared the "International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the 1995 Genocide in Srebrenica."

THEY HAD HELD A PROTEST!

Serbs in Montenegro had gathered in front of the government building to hold protest demonstrations before the resolution was discussed at the United Nations General Assembly.

Some Serbian politicians also participated in the protest by the group, who carried Serbian and Russian flags.

Furthermore, Serbs in Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina are also opposing this decision.

WHAT IS THE SREBRENICA GENOCIDE?

Immediately after Srebrenica was occupied by Serbian forces under the command of Ratko Mladić on July 11, 1995, civilian Bosniaks who had taken refuge with Dutch soldiers under the UN were handed over to the Serbs.

The Serbs, who allowed women and children to go to the area controlled by Bosniak soldiers, killed at least 8,372 Bosniak men in forested areas, factories, and warehouses, and they were buried in mass graves.

In its 2007 ruling, the International Court of Justice in The Hague, in line with evidence from the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), characterized the events in and around Srebrenica as "genocide."

There are more than 1,600 people who lost their lives in the Srebrenica genocide whose identities have not been determined and whose remains have not been found.
