A new era at Amazon: Hybrid work system is being terminated

Amazon has published a message from Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Andy Jassy announcing changes to the company's hybrid work policy. Jassy stated that the company will be ending its current system of working from the office 3 days a week, noting that the full-time office work policy implemented before the Covid-19 pandemic will be reinstated.

Jassy argued that it will become mandatory for employees to come to the office 5 days a week as of 2025, and that team members collaborate better when they are in the office. However, he added that there will be some exceptions for situations such as illnesses and emergencies. He shared the information that the new work system will go into effect on January 2, 2025.

When Amazon announced in 2023 that it would transition to a 3-day-a-week office work system, the decision sparked protests among employees, who demanded that remote work continue. The reactions shown by employees against this change are considered one of the reasons for the company's decision to make a radical change to its hybrid work policy.
