New government in France to be formed after Olympic Games
French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that the new government will be formed after the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
In France, a new government has yet to be formed following the early general elections held on June 30 and July 7, in which the left-wing coalition New Popular Front (Nouveau Front Populaire) finished in first place.
French President Emmanuel Macron stated in his announcement that the current government will remain in office on an interim basis until the middle of next month and will focus on the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Stating that he would appoint a new prime minister after the Olympic Games, Macron did not provide information regarding the New Popular Front's prime ministerial proposal, while also expressing that he would not resign before his term ends.
EARLY GENERAL ELECTION
President Macron dissolved the National Assembly on June 9 due to the overwhelming victory achieved by the far-right National Rally party in the European Parliament elections. In the first round of the early general elections held in France on June 30, the National Rally party came in first with 33.15 percent of the vote.
In the second round of the early elections, the left-wing coalition New Popular Front (Nouveau Front Populaire)—consisting of La France Insoumise (LFI) led by Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the Green Party (EELV), the Socialist Party (PS), and the Communist Party (PCF)—finished the election in first place with 182 seats.
Following the elections, French Prime Minister Gabriel Attal resigned, and it was reported that Attal would continue to carry out his duties until a new government is formed.
