New US sanctions on Iran

The US administration has announced new sanctions against Iran. In a statement from the US Department of the Treasury, it was reported that individuals and entities identified as part of an international network allegedly helping Iran procure weapons have been added to the sanctions list. The statement noted that the targets of the sanctions include citizens of Iran and Russia, as well as entities based in Iran, Russia, and Nigeria.

The Treasury Department alleged that the sanctioned individuals and entities utilized foreign aviation and transport companies, financial intermediaries, and travel coordinators to conceal the role of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in illicit procurement activities and to facilitate the movement of materials and personnel worldwide.

This sanctions decision is seen as a continuation of the measures taken by the US in May against individuals and entities, including some in China and Hong Kong, on charges of assisting Iran's weapons sector.

Furthermore, the US imposed sanctions on 11 individuals and entities last month on the grounds that they assisted in the weapons procurement of the IRGC and the Iranian Armed Forces.
