No consensus in Moscow: Putin meets with Trump's Middle East Special Envoy
Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting lasting approximately 5 hours with U.S. President Donald Trump's Middle East Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump's advisor and son-in-law Jared Kushner to discuss a peace plan for Ukraine. While the Russian side described the meeting as "useful and constructive," it reported that no consensus has yet been reached regarding territorial issues.
The meeting held in Moscow between Russian President Vladimir Putin, U.S. President Donald Trump's Middle East Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and Trump's advisor and son-in-law Jared Kushner concluded after approximately 5 hours of negotiations. Speaking to the press after the meeting, where the U.S.-prepared peace plan to end the Russia-Ukraine war was discussed, Russian Presidential Aide Yury Ushakov described the meeting as "quite useful and constructive."
Responding to the question of "whether peace is closer or further away" by saying, "It is not further away, that is certain," Ushakov noted that, despite this, a common ground could not be reached on the territorial issue, stating that the Kremlin does not see a possibility of a solution without progress on this matter.
"CONTACTS WILL CONTINUE"
Stating that Putin asked Witkoff and Kushner to convey various messages to Trump, Ushakov said, "We agreed with our American colleagues not to disclose the content of the negotiations to the public. The meeting was confidential." Ushakov also emphasized that "there is much work to be done in both Washington and Moscow" and added that "contacts will continue."
Kirill Dmitriev, Putin's Special Representative for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries and CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), described the meetings as "productive" in a single word in a social media post.
