No result in the eighth round of the Court of Cassation presidency election!

The 4-year term of Mehmet Akarca, who was elected as President of the Court of Cassation on March 24, 2020, expired as of Sunday.

Ballot boxes were set up at the Court of Cassation to determine the High Court's new president, who will serve for 4 years, and Court of Cassation members went to the polls as of 08:00 on Monday.

Following the first 7 rounds of the election, in which no candidate could secure at least 175 votes—the absolute majority of the 348 Court of Cassation members—the sixth, seventh, and eighth rounds of voting were held today.

In the eighth round of voting, Akarca received 115 votes, 3rd Civil Chamber President Ömer Kerkez received 123 votes, and 3rd Criminal Chamber President Muhsin Şentürk received 96 votes. No candidate was able to secure an absolute majority in this round either.

In the ninth round to be held tomorrow, the two names who received the most votes today will compete.

Accordingly, the 9th and 10th rounds of the election will be held between Mehmet Akarca and Ömer Kerkez. An absolute majority of the total number of members is required to be present for the elections.
