North Korea officially confirms sending troops to Russia

North Korea has officially announced that it has sent troops to Russia for the ongoing war against Ukraine. In an announcement made by the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea, it was stated that military support was provided to Russia within the scope of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement signed between Pyongyang and Moscow.

The statement highlighted that North Korean soldiers serving specifically in the Kursk region have shown "heroic achievements." Emphasizing the impact of North Korean soldiers on the ground, the statement said, "Our armed forces have made significant contributions to the elimination of Neo-Nazi Ukrainian forces and the liberation of Russian territory."

DECISION MADE BY KIM JONG-UN

It was stated that the decision to send troops was made directly by North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un. The statement included the remarks, "North Korean soldiers are defending Russian territory as if it were their own homeland and are writing legendary tales of heroism in their struggle." The Pyongyang administration also underscored that this military cooperation marks the beginning of a new era in relations between the two countries.

DEFENSE OF "COMPLIANCE WITH INTERNATIONAL LAW"

The North Korean government stated that they are honored to fight shoulder-to-shoulder with a powerful ally like Russia. In the statement, it was claimed that the military support provided is fully in accordance with international legal norms. The statement used the words, "The activities our army is conducting on Russian territory are in compliance with all international legal standards, including United Nations rules."

AGREEMENT REACHED IN JUNE

This development is based on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership Agreement signed by Kim Jong-Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Pyongyang last June. The agreement stipulated mutual assistance in the event of an attack on either party. Following June, it had been alleged that North Korean soldiers were participating in the war against Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region; however, this situation had not been confirmed by official authorities until today.
