North Macedonia's new president has been determined

In the Balkan country of North Macedonia, the country's new president has been determined following the second round of the presidential election, which was held after the first round on April 24. 

According to unofficial results after 83.12 percent of the votes were counted, the candidate of the main opposition party VMRO-DPMNE, Gordana Siljanovska Davkova, became the country's new president by receiving 64.84 percent of the votes. Davkova has gone down in history as the country's first female president.

Davkova's rival, the candidate of the ruling Social Democratic Union of Macedonia (SDSM) and incumbent President Stevo Pendarovski, received 29.29 percent of the votes.

Pendarovski accepted defeat and congratulated the new president at a press conference he held after the election results became clear.

The voter turnout for the presidential election in the country was 46.69 percent.
