Norway to come under France's nuclear umbrella

Following Poland and Lithuania, Norway will come under France's nuclear umbrella.

Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere announced that his country will sign a defense agreement with France due to growing security concerns, effectively coming under France's nuclear umbrella.

Stoere stated that they made this decision while evaluating European security policy in the context of Russia's increased armament and its invasion of Ukraine.

Stoere specified that no nuclear weapons will be deployed to Norway during peacetime.

Stoere will meet with French President Emmanuel Macron in the French capital, Paris, today to sign a new defense agreement with France.

Norway, which is not a member of the European Union, is a NATO member and shares a border with Russia. While the world's largest nuclear powers, Russia and the US, each possess more than 5,000 nuclear warheads, China has approximately 500, France has 290, and the UK has 225 nuclear warheads.
