Norwegian diplomat Mona Juul resigns over Epstein connections
Experienced Norwegian diplomat Mona Juul has announced her decision to end her career at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after her name was linked to American billionaire Jeffrey Epstein.
Norwegian media reported that former Ambassador to Amman Juul has resigned from her ambassadorial post and will soon leave the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs after her name appeared in the same documents as Epstein's. Juul's lawyer, Thomas Skjelbred, confirmed his client's decision to step down in a statement to the TV 2 channel. Skjelbred stated, "She decided that the most appropriate step for her was to leave."
It was reported that this move, which will end Juul's long diplomatic career, will take effect as of May 1, and the diplomat will retire. It was noted that in addition to Juul, the names of other high-level figures, such as her husband, former diplomat Terje Rod-Larsen, and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of the Norwegian Royal Family, also appeared in the documents in question.
THE JEFFREY EPSTEIN SCANDAL AND THE NAMES IN THE DOCUMENTS
Jeffrey Epstein, who was on trial in the US for establishing a large-scale abuse and sex trafficking network targeting underage girls, was found dead in his prison cell in New York in 2019.
While the incident caused a major stir worldwide, the case files also included many famous names such as the British Prince Andrew of the time, former US presidents Donald Trump and Bill Clinton, former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, former US Vice President Al Gore, and artists Kevin Spacey and Michael Jackson.
In the investigation, the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Department of Justice announced that they had not found any evidence of direct complicity regarding the individuals known to the public as the "client list." Regarding Epstein, it was announced that he died by suicide, contrary to allegations.
Following these developments, Norwegian diplomat Mona Juul chose to completely sever her ties with the foreign ministry to ensure her own record would not become a subject of controversy.
