According to a report by Yonhap, Statistics Korea has shared data regarding the number of marriages, divorces, and newborns in the country.
Accordingly, in 2023, when 194 thousand couples got married in the country, there was an increase of around 1 percent compared to the previous year. This rate has increased for the first time since 2011.
The number of couples divorcing in the country was recorded as 92 thousand in 2023, with a decrease of 0.9 percent.
The data also showed that the downward trend in the annual number of births in the country has continued in recent years.
In South Korea, 192 thousand couples had married in 2022, a 0.4 percent decrease compared to the previous year.
