Numerous inmates escape by exploiting security breach: Prisoners break out in 'that' country
It has been reported that 47 inmates have escaped from a prison in Liberia.
Officials from the Ministry of Justice in Liberia have announced that 47 inmates have escaped from a prison located near the capital, Monrovia.
According to reports in the national press, a statement from the Ministry of Justice indicated that there was a problem with the security system at the prison in the town of Kakata, located 55 kilometers from the capital, Monrovia.
The statement noted that 47 inmates escaped due to the issue.
Stating that there is 'deep concern over the incident and that all necessary measures have been taken to capture the escaped inmates,' the statement added that additional personnel have been assigned to assist the police in locating the fugitives.
It is said that many people in Liberia are imprisoned without trial. A UN report published in November 2022 stated that 73% of the prison population nationwide were being held without trial.
