An operation was carried out against Turkish criminal organizations in Greece. Following an armed attack in the capital, Athens, last Monday that resulted in the deaths of two Turkish citizens, police detained 16 people in operations targeting Turkish criminal organizations in Athens and Thessaloniki.
While the clash on Monday is believed to have stemmed from a turf war between criminal organizations, reports in the Greek press stated that 49 weapons and narcotics were seized during the operations.
According to media reports, the operation to dismantle the criminal organizations came after the Greek National Intelligence Service provided police with information regarding Turkish criminal organizations following the incident that took place in Glyfada, one of Athens' largest suburbs, on Monday. Greek police had previously announced that two people had been detained and five others were being sought in connection with the bloody settling of scores that occurred on Monday.
GANG HAD BEEN ANNOUNCED DISMANTLED
Police had announced last month that they had dismantled a drug trafficking gang with ties to Turkey that had numerous members.
In June, police had detained a Turkish citizen who killed one Turkish citizen and seriously wounded another in an armed attack that took place in the port city of Piraeus.
