Opposition candidate with arrest warrant in Venezuela arrives in Spain
The Spanish government has brought opposition candidate Edmundo Gonzalez, who faces an arrest warrant in Venezuela, to Spain.
The Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that a Spanish Air Force military aircraft, which traveled to the Venezuelan capital of Caracas to pick up Edmundo Gonzalez and his family, has landed at the Torrejon de Ardoz military air base in Madrid.
In a written statement from the ministry, it was reported that Edmundo Gonzalez and his wife arrived at Torrejon de Ardoz with Diego Martinez Belio, the Undersecretary for Foreign Affairs in the Spanish government, and were met at the air base by Susana Sumelzo, the Undersecretary for Ibero-America and Spanish-speaking Countries.
It was stated that the next step for the Venezuelan opposition leader will be the initiation of the process for requesting political asylum in Spain.
