In an incident brought to light by the Israeli press, it was stated that Israeli forces, who raided the West Bank on Monday, beat Hamdan Ballal, one of the directors of the documentary No Other Land. It was reported that Ballal was detained by Israeli soldiers and released on Tuesday afternoon.

Lawyer Lea Tsemel announced that her client, Ballal, was being held at a police station and would be released soon. Shortly after, it was confirmed that Ballal had been released. Witnesses present in the village during the incident stated that Israeli settlers destroyed water tanks, removed security cameras, and smashed vehicle windows. It was noted that Ballal, who reacted to the events, sustained injuries to his head and abdomen as a result of being beaten.

According to a report by Sweden's SVT, the director's colleague, Israeli director Basel Adra, stated that a group of approximately 30 people attacked the village, some of whom were masked and armed. Adra suggested that these attacks might be a reaction to the international success of Ballal's Oscar-winning documentary.

In a statement regarding the incident, the Israeli army shared information that it had detained three Palestinians and one Israeli civilian, alleging a 'violent confrontation.' Eyewitnesses denied the authorities' statement, rejecting the claim that those arrested were linked to stone-throwing acts.

The documentary No Other Land focused on the impact of Israel's settlement expansion in the West Bank on Palestinian communities. Set in the Masafer Yatta region, the documentary told the story of the destruction of a village and the friendship between the two directors. The Israeli Minister of Culture described the film's Oscar win as a 'sad moment for the film industry.'
