Pakistan Defense Minister Khawaja Asif responded to US President Donald Trump's call for countries, including Pakistan, to join the Abraham Accords during a television program he attended. Asif said, "Personally, I think we should not join any agreement that contradicts our core ideologies. Currently, there is no initiative taken by us on this matter, and no one has made such an offer to us."
When asked if there had been any contact from the US regarding joining the Abraham Accords, Khawaja Asif stated that Pakistan's position has not changed. The Pakistani minister remarked, "We have a very clear stance; this is not acceptable to us. Furthermore, we are the only country whose passports do not even mention the name of Israel."
"This support and cooperation will be further strengthened by their joining the historic Abraham Accords"
US President Donald Trump, in a statement on Sunday, thanked the countries involved in the negotiation process with Iran, saying, "I want to thank all the countries in the Middle East for their support and cooperation so far. This support and cooperation will be further strengthened by their joining the historic Abraham Accords, and who knows, maybe the Islamic Republic of Iran might want to join as well."
According to US media reports, Trump had requested that some countries join the Abraham Accords if an agreement is reached to end the war with Iran. Based on information from two US officials, Trump had stated during the meeting that the next step in the Middle East following the process regarding the Iran war would be the normalization of relations with Israel.
