Palestine requests permission from Israel for President Abbas to enter Gaza
Palestine has requested permission from Israel for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to enter the Gaza Strip via Israel instead of Egypt.
While Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is expected to visit the Gaza Strip in the near future, Palestine has requested permission from Israel for Abbas to enter Gaza.
Reports in the Israeli press stated that Hussein al-Sheikh, Secretary-General of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), sent a letter yesterday to Israeli National Security Advisor Tzachi Hanegbi, requesting permission for Abbas to travel to the Gaza Strip via Israel rather than Egypt.
The reports suggested that Abbas expects the request to be rejected and intends to use this refusal to further criticize Israel.
