Panic on Ryanair flight: Window pops out

A Ryanair flight traveling from Thessaloniki, Greece, to Munich, Germany, returned to Thessaloniki shortly after takeoff when a passenger window came loose. According to passenger accounts of the incident on the Boeing 737-800, a passenger sitting next to the window experienced great panic.

It was reported that the plane took off as scheduled at 05:55 local time, and a loud bang was heard in the cabin shortly after, while at an altitude of approximately 20,000 feet. Eyewitnesses stated that the window was damaged, as also seen in images circulating on social media.

According to testimonies reflected in the German and Greek press, the head and shoulders of the passenger sitting next to the window were pulled toward the broken section. An eyewitness speaking to the Greek television channel ERT stated, "His head and shoulders were out of the broken window."

According to reports, the passenger's wife tried to keep him in the cabin by holding him by his legs for about five minutes. It was stated that the passenger was pulled back inside with the help of other passengers while oxygen masks were deployed.

A Ryanair spokesperson announced that a passenger requested medical assistance on the ground in Thessaloniki and that the necessary intervention was performed. The company stated that a replacement aircraft was arranged, which departed from Thessaloniki at 09:53 local time to transport the passengers to Munich.

The injured passenger is estimated to be a 61-year-old Serbian citizen. According to De Telegraaf, the passenger suffered a neck injury, as well as abrasions and burns on his body. It was stated that the passenger was conscious but in shock following the incident.
