Parliament's electricity cut off due to debt!

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) cut off power to the parliament building due to a 1.8 million dollar debt, leaving the premises in darkness.

PEOPLE TRAPPED IN ELEVATORS

The Ghanaian parliament was left without electricity due to a 1.8 million dollar debt. The parliament building was plunged into darkness after the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) cut the power over unpaid bills. Following the power outage, members of parliament chanted slogans in the local language. Due to the outage, which occurred while the Ghanaian President's State of the Nation Address was being debated, some people were trapped in elevators. Electricity was restored to the parliament after the generator was activated.

William Boateng, Communications Director for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), stated that such a decision was made due to the parliament's debt, and that power was restored after a commitment was made to pay the remaining debt within one week.
