A passenger bus has plunged into a ravine in South Africa. In a statement, the South African Department of Transport reported that 45 people died and one child was injured as a result of the accident.

The statement said, "It is alleged that the driver lost control, causing the bus to crash through the barriers on the bridge, fall off the bridge, and catch fire in the ravine below."
Minister of Transport Sindisiwe Chikunga visited the scene of the accident and promised that a comprehensive investigation would be conducted. It was stated that the bridge where the bus crashed connects two hillsides near Mmamatlakala in the Limpopo province.
