It has been reported that Pentagon officials have requested an explanation from the Israeli military regarding the reasons behind the initial attack on the Jabalia Refugee Camp.
According to a report by the US-based Politico magazine, citing an official from the White House, the Pentagon has requested information regarding the rationale and process behind the Israeli military's initial attack on the Jabalia Refugee Camp in northern Gaza.
The official stated that the Pentagon also requested that Israel "make efforts to ensure that civilians are not harmed." he said.
BILATERAL TALKS
A Democratic member of the US House of Representatives, speaking to Politico, also expressed that the administration of US President Joe Biden has been pressuring the Israeli government in private discussions to slow down its attacks, particularly following the strike on the Jabalia Refugee Camp.
The House member added that Democrats are discussing certain measures to penalize Israel if the attacks continue and that specific mechanisms could be activated if necessary.
EMPHASIS ON PROTECTING CIVILIANS
Pentagon Press Secretary Brigadier General Patrick Ryder also stated in a press briefing on Thursday, "When we provide military assistance to partners, including Israel, we make it clear that this support must be used in accordance with international law, including obligations regarding the laws of war and the protection of civilians."
