Pessimistic comments on the Middle East from Tom Barrack: There will be no peace
In an interview with Sky News Arabia, Tom Barrack, the US Special Envoy for Syria and Ambassador to Ankara, stated that Lebanon has not taken "any real steps" regarding border tensions with Israel.
Stating that Israel will not withdraw from the five points it currently occupies, Barrack said, "Netanyahu does not care about borders or red lines if he feels Israel is under threat."
Tom Barrack alleged that Hezbollah has recently been receiving 60 million dollars per month from unidentified sources, suggesting that the organization is in a process of restructuring.
Emphasizing that the US will not take military action against Hezbollah, Barrack said, "The Lebanese government must take action."
"PEACE IS AN ILLUSION"
Stating that the situation in Lebanon is difficult but that "a good team is in power," Barrack spoke pessimistically about the Middle East:
"Peace is an illusion. There has never been peace. There will likely never be peace. Someone wants to establish dominance, and that means someone else must submit. There is no word for submission in Arabic. They cannot grasp the concept of submission in their minds."
