Pezeshkian: US and Europe failed to keep their promises regarding Haniyeh assassination

According to Iranian state television, President Masoud Pezeshkian evaluated the assassination of Hamas Political Bureau Chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran during the Cabinet meeting held yesterday evening. Referring to Israel's aggression in the region and its Western supporters, Pezeshkian stated, "The crimes of the Zionist regime are unacceptable and will not go unanswered."

Pezeshkian remarked, "The claims of the leaders of the US and European countries, who promised a ceasefire in exchange for Iran not responding to the martyrdom of Haniyeh, are completely false. Giving such criminals a chance will serve no purpose other than to encourage them to commit more crimes."

While the President's statements sparked debates in the country, a group gathered in front of the Supreme National Security Council building in Iran during the night, demanding a response from officials regarding these statements.

Iran had decided to retaliate against Israel following the assassination of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in the capital, Tehran, on July 31.

Responding to claims that it might abandon its intention to attack in exchange for a permanent halt to Israeli attacks in Gaza, the Tehran administration emphasized that "punishing Israel, which threatens our national sovereignty, and efforts for a ceasefire in Gaza are separate issues," and added that they hope not to harm the ceasefire process.
