Pirates release ship: The price was 5 million dollars
Somali pirates announced that they released the bulk carrier ship and its crew, which they had hijacked in March while it was en route from Mozambique to the UAE, after a 5 million dollar ransom was paid to them two days ago.
The incident took place approximately 600 nautical miles east of Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia. The Bangladeshi-flagged bulk carrier 'MV Abdullah' was hijacked in March while it was en route from Mozambique to the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Two Somali pirates announced that after the 5 million dollar ransom was paid, the hijacked ship named 'MV Abdullah' was released along with its 23 crew members.
"WE CHECKED IF THE MONEY WAS COUNTERFEIT"
Speaking to the Reuters news agency, one of the pirates, Abdirashiid Yusuf, said, "The money was brought to us two nights ago. We checked to see if it was counterfeit. Then we divided the money among the groups and left the area, staying away from government forces."
Yusuf stated that the ship was released along with its crew.
