Plea deals for those accused of planning the 9/11 attacks have been canceled

In a statement published on the US Department of Defense (Pentagon) website under Austin's signature, an announcement was made regarding the agreement reached with Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Walid bin Attash, and Mustafa al-Hawsawi, who are accused of being the planners of the 9/11 attacks.

Austin stated that "given the significance of the matter," the authority to make the decision rested with him under the Military Commissions Act, declaring, "Effective immediately, I am withdrawing from these agreements."

LIFE IMPRISONMENT INSTEAD OF DEATH PENALTY

According to reports in the US press, the military prosecution had announced in a statement sent to the families of the 9/11 victims that the three individuals accused of planning the attacks had agreed to accept life imprisonment instead of facing the death penalty in exchange for pleading guilty to the charges.

While the details of the agreement were not made public, it had been suggested that the families of those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks, who are parties to the case, would object to the agreement.
