Poland calls on Russia to take responsibility for Navalny's death

Poland has summoned Russia's Ambassador to Warsaw, Sergey Andreyev, to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. A statement issued by the Polish Foreign Ministry reported that Sergey Andreyev was summoned to the ministry following the death of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny. 

The statement noted that Navalny had been sentenced to 19 years in prison following a show trial and had been subjected to unjust disciplinary penalties, including long-term solitary confinement, during his time in prison. "We call on the Russian authorities to take responsibility for the death of Alexei Navalny and to conduct a full and transparent investigation to determine the cause and circumstances of his death," the statement said.

"PAY COMPENSATION"

The statement, which noted that Navalny's death and the treatment he was subjected to beforehand were indicative of Russia's treatment of political prisoners, dissidents, and human rights defenders, included the following: "We call on Russia to hold those responsible for the unlawful attacks on Ukraine accountable, to pay compensation to the victims, and to answer for the crimes committed against the Ukrainian state and its civilian population."
