Polish Prime Minister Tusk reveals NATO's greatest danger

Tensions continue to rise between the US and NATO member countries.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk commented on the Washington administration's decision to reduce the number of troops in Germany, following the recent friction between the US and Germany.

In a post on his social media account, Tusk stated, "The greatest danger to the transatlantic community is not external enemies, but the ongoing dissolution of our alliance. We must do everything in our power to reverse this disastrous trend."

Tension between the US and Germany

The tension, which began two weeks ago when German Chancellor Friedrich Merz pointed to the deadlock in negotiation efforts and stated, "The US is being humiliated by the Iranian administration," continued with US President Donald Trump responding, "Merz doesn't know what he's talking about." The Trump administration, not backing down despite Merz's attempts to lower the tension, responded harshly by announcing that it would withdraw a portion of its troops from Germany. The US Department of Defense (Pentagon) announced that it would withdraw 5,000 of its troops from Germany within 6 to 12 months.

According to data from the German Ministry of Defense, the number of US troops stationed in Germany is known to be approximately 39,000.

Trump had said he might consider withdrawing troops from Spain and Italy as well

US President Donald Trump was asked yesterday by reporters whether he was considering withdrawing troops from Spain and Italy as well. In his response to this question, Trump referred to the reactions from allied countries to the US call for support for its military presence in the Strait of Hormuz, saying, "Yes, probably. Why wouldn't I consider it? Italy hasn't helped us in any way. Spain was terrible, absolutely terrible. You know NATO; it's not just that they are bad."
