Polish Prime Minister Tusk: We will not accept any asylum seekers!
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated that his country has already taken in hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian and Belarusian refugees, and that they will not accept any asylum seekers under the EU Migration and Asylum Pact, nor will they pay any fines in lieu of doing so.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk stated in a press conference following the European Union (EU) Council's approval of the new Migration and Asylum Pact that his country will not accept any asylum seekers under this framework.
Speaking at a press conference after a cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Donald Tusk noted that they have already taken in hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian refugees due to the war, as well as Belarusian refugees, and stated that they will not implement the provision in the pact requiring a payment of 20,000 Euros if asylum seekers are not accepted.
Tusk said, "The EU will not be able to impose a migrant quota on us. We will not have to take in any migrants, and we will not pay for anything. However, we will continue to receive financial support from the EU because we are hosting hundreds of thousands of migrants."
Stating that the flow of funds necessary to equip the soldiers and border guards serving on Poland's eastern border will continue from the EU, Donald Tusk said that the migration pressure is being directed by Russia and Belarus, and that this is not a migration of peoples, but a hybrid war intended to destabilize Poland and Europe.
