Pope Francis' call for peace to the international community: End the spiral of revenge
During his traditional Sunday prayer, Pope Francis drew attention to the conflicts in the Middle East and called for a ceasefire. Emphasizing the suffering of the Palestinian people in particular, the Pope urged the international community to end the spiral of revenge and prevent larger conflicts. He also sent a message of solidarity to those affected by the flood disaster in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Pope Francis, the spiritual leader of Catholics and Head of State of the Vatican, delivered messages regarding international developments following his traditional Sunday prayer from the window of his office overlooking the Vatican's famous St. Peter's Square.
Pope Francis also reminded that tomorrow marks the anniversary of October 7, 2023, expressed his closeness to Israel, and reiterated his request for the release of hostages.
The spiritual leader of Catholics stated, "Since that day, the Middle East has been dragged into increasingly serious suffering with devastating military actions that continue to affect the Palestinian people. Palestinians are suffering greatly in Gaza and other areas. These are mostly innocent civilians and those who need to receive humanitarian aid. I call for an immediate ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon. We are praying for the Lebanese people, especially those in the south who have been forced to leave their villages."
The Pope stated that tomorrow will be a day of prayer and fasting for world peace, saying, "I call on the international community to end the spiral of revenge and to ensure that attacks like the one Iran carried out a few days ago, which could lead to a larger war in the region, are not repeated."
Meanwhile, the Pope expressed his solidarity with those affected by the flood disaster in Bosnia and Herzegovina and conveyed his condolences for those who lost their lives.
