Pope Francis hospitalized

In a written statement from the Vatican Press Office, it was stated, "Pope Francis was admitted to Gemelli Hospital this morning for some necessary check-ups and to continue his treatment for bronchitis in the hospital following his morning audiences."

The Italian news agency ANSA, citing sources close to Pope Francis, reported that the spiritual leader of Catholics may remain in the hospital for treatment for 5 days.

In a statement released by the Vatican Press Office in the evening, it was noted, "Due to the worsening of his bronchitis in recent days, the Pope underwent the necessary examinations and began drug treatment in the hospital. Initial tests revealed a respiratory infection. His clinical condition is stable, and slight changes in his fever are being observed."

Vatican Press Spokesperson Matteo Bruni also noted in a statement to journalists accredited to the Vatican that the Pope is calm and doing well, and is reading newspapers.

WHAT HAPPENED?

Pope Francis, who has been suffering from bronchitis since the beginning of the month, stated during two public events on February 9 and 12 that he was experiencing bronchitis and difficulty breathing, and therefore could not deliver his speeches himself, asking his aides to read them instead.
