Pope Francis: 'May the Lord grant leaders the ability to pause and negotiate'

The spiritual leader of Catholics and Head of the Vatican State, Pope Francis, has called on leaders to negotiate a path toward peace in the Middle East and Ukraine.

Delivering his traditional Sunday prayer from the window of his office overlooking St. Peter's Square in the Vatican, the Pope invited the faithful to pray for peace during his address.

Pope Francis said, "May our prayers for a just and lasting peace not be in vain, especially in war-torn Ukraine, and in Palestine and Israel."

The spiritual leader of Catholics expressed his wish for God to encourage those working to de-escalate tensions and make negotiations possible, stating, "May the Lord grant leaders the ability to pause and negotiate."

Pope Francis had also reiterated his call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza during his general audience on April 3.
