US President Donald Trump made notable remarks regarding President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan during his meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

“I AM GOING OUT OF RESPECT FOR ERDOĞAN”

Using the phrase “He is my friend” for Erdoğan, Trump said, “Erdoğan is a very strong man.”

Emphasizing Turkey’s regional and global importance, Trump stated, “People do not realize how big Turkey is.”

Noting that President Erdoğan is the first person who comes to his mind when Turkey is mentioned, Trump said, “When Turkey is mentioned, Erdoğan is the first thing that comes to my mind.”

US President Trump also made a notable assessment regarding his attendance at the summit to be held in Ankara. Trump said, “I might not have gone to the Ankara summit. I am going because of the respect I have for Erdoğan.”

HARSH CRITICISM OF EUROPEAN COUNTRIES

During the meeting, Trump also criticized European countries, stating that there is a weakness in defense production in Europe and America, and that the war in Ukraine has had a major impact on this.

Stating that he did not receive support from Europe during the Iran war process, Trump also expressed his grievances toward NATO countries.

Saying, “They disappointed us,” Trump expressed that they did not need help regarding Iran, but that it would have been nice to receive a message from Europe saying, “We would like to help.”

While Trump criticized Italy, Germany, France, and Spain among European countries, he gave positive messages regarding Turkey and Erdoğan.

The US President said he wants Europe’s friendship but does not want its money.
