In the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador, a priest lost his life as a result of an accident that occurred during a mass held at a church and broadcast live.
A wooden crucifix hanging on the wall fell onto Father Patricio Sanchez Molinari, who was at the altar in the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Footage of the incident shows the crucifix suddenly detaching and falling onto the priest, while those in the church rushed to help in a panic.
The Archdiocese of Guayaquil extended its condolences and solidarity to Molinari's family and loved ones.
It is not yet known whether there was any defect in the mounting of the crucifix or the wall. An investigation into the incident has been launched.
