Prison sentence for Paludan, who burned the Quran in Sweden, for hate speech!
Rasmus Paludan, the leader of the Danish far-right Hard Line (Stram Kurs) party, has been sentenced to 4 months in prison for hate speech due to insults directed at Muslims while he burned the Quran in the Swedish city of Malmö in 2022.
In a statement from the Malmö District Court, it was noted that Paludan, who was tried for hate speech for using derogatory and disrespectful language toward Muslims while wrapping the Quran in bacon and burning it in 2022, was sentenced to 4 months in prison.
"Hate speech" lawsuits had been filed against Paludan by various individuals and institutions for insulting the Quran and Muslims.
An arrest warrant had been issued by the Malmö Prosecutor's Office for Paludan, who did not attend to give testimony.
Paludan did not attend today's hearing either.
Speaking to the Swedish state television SVT, Paludan announced that he would appeal the decision and take the case to a higher court.
Furthermore, Paludan added that he would never go to Sweden again.
EASTER RIOTS
Rasmus Paludan continued his provocations of burning the Quran throughout the 2022 Easter holiday in the Swedish cities of Malmö, Norrköping, Jönköping, and Stockholm.
Protesters who wanted Paludan to be stopped burned tires on the roads and attacked the police with stones. In the ensuing incidents, 104 police officers and 14 protesters were injured, and 20 police vehicles were burned and destroyed.
Rasmus Paludan also burned the Quran in front of Turkey's Embassy in Stockholm. During the act, which was carried out under heavy police protection, no one was allowed to approach Paludan.
PROVOCATIONS OF BURNING HOLY BOOKS BANNED IN DENMARK
On the other hand, the Danish Parliament passed a bill on December 7, 2023, banning the burning of holy books and attacks on these books.
It was announced that those who violate the law could face fines or up to two years in prison.
