Protesters ram vehicle into Presidential Palace in Mexico
A protest was held in Mexico City, the capital of Mexico, to demand the discovery of 43 students who went missing in 2014. Demonstrators, calling on the government to take action to clarify what happened to the students, rammed a vehicle into the Presidential Palace and broke down a door.
Following the incident, some masked protesters entered the palace.
Security forces responded to push back the protesters following the incident, which occurred while President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador was holding a press conference inside.
Obrador described the incident as a "clear provocation," stating, "They want us to respond with violence. We will not do that. We are not repressive."
ABOUT THE MISSING STUDENTS
The 43 students who went missing in the city of Iguala, Guerrero state, on September 26, 2014, while traveling by bus from Ayotzinapa to a protest in the capital, Mexico City, have not been heard from since. It is believed that the students were abducted by police in collusion with criminals and were killed by the Guerreros Unidos cartel to whom they were handed over.
