Protests held in many cities in Pakistan over allegations of election fraud

According to a report by Geo News, former Prime Minister Imran Khan's party, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F), and other political parties protested the election results in the provinces of Balochistan, Sindh, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

In the city of Quetta in Balochistan, supporters of the National Party, the Hazara Democratic Party, and the Balochistan National Party held a demonstration in front of the Election Commission office. Due to the ongoing protests, highways in Quetta, Chaman, Qilla Saifullah, Loralai, and Pishin remain closed to traffic.

Road connections between Balochistan and the provinces of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab have been severed due to the demonstrations.

ALLEGATIONS THAT VOTES WERE STOLEN

In the city of Hyderabad in Sindh province, JUI-F supporters also held a demonstration against the election results.

The Awami National Party (ANP) also announced that it has decided to protest the election results nationwide starting from February 20. In the city of Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, traffic came to a standstill due to a protest organized by PTI supporters.

Although the PTI emerged as the leading party in the elections, it claims that votes were stolen in numerous constituencies and transferred to candidates of rival parties. Other political parties also maintain that their votes were stolen.

WHAT HAPPENED?

The Election Commission of Pakistan announced the results of the National Assembly and provincial assembly elections held on February 8 yesterday. In the National Assembly elections, independent candidates supported by former Prime Minister Imran Khan's party, the PTI, finished in first place, while the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), led by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, finished in second place.
