Putin and Xi meet in Astana
Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping met in Astana, where they arrived to attend the 24th Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Heads of State Council Summit.
In his speech during the meeting, Putin stated that Russia and China led the establishment of the SCO in 2001, adding, "Tomorrow, Belarus will become a full member of the organization. With the expansion of the circle of participants, the organization has strengthened its role as one of the pillars of a fair and multipolar world order. We will certainly support China's 2024-2025 SCO Chairmanship."
Speaking during the meeting, which lasted about an hour, the Russian leader said, "Russian-Chinese interaction in world affairs is one of the fundamental elements of stability in the international arena, and we continue to strengthen this interaction. We hold the BRICS chairmanship this year. This organization was also established through our joint initiatives, and we look forward to your participation and that of our colleagues in the summit to be held in Kazan this October."
In his speech, Xi called on China and Russia to resolutely protect their bilateral relations, stating that in the face of an international situation full of instability and change, Russia and China must continue to remain firmly committed to their long-term friendship and dedication to serving their people.
Xi also emphasized that both sides should make efforts to protect their own legal rights and interests.
