Putin announces: 'We are very close to launching new generation cancer vaccines'
Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that Russian scientists are close to producing cancer vaccines that will soon be available for patient use.
Russian President Vladimir Putin stated, "We are very close to the launch of new generation cancer vaccines and immunomodulatory drugs."
Speaking at a forum on future technologies in Moscow, he added, "We hope that they will soon be effectively used as methods of individual therapy."
Putin did not specify which types of cancer the proposed vaccines would target or how they would function.
Many countries and companies are working on cancer vaccines.
Last year, the United Kingdom government signed an agreement with Germany-based BioNTech to launch clinical trials providing "personalized cancer treatments," aiming to reach 10 thousand patients by 2030.
Pharmaceutical companies Moderna and Merck & Co had announced that they were close to developing an experimental cancer vaccine, with a mid-stage study showing that it halved the likelihood of recurrence or death from melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, after three years of treatment.
